Engage with Keva Planks - 7 beginners’ tips
- May 25, 2016
“Keva Planks” are a set of wooden pieces in which an individual builds structures as per his choice using the planks by simply stacking them on top of one another. No glue or connectors are involved. Each piece is same as that of another. The stacking of pieces will give you a structure that will be similar to that of a house of cards. One wrong move or say an accidental push will bring down the entire structure by a shift in the center of gravity and the player has to build the structure again from scratch. Keva planks are fun to play with and are extremely engaging. Engaging with Keva planks can be considered a stepping stone to a career in designing, architecture or civil engineering. Apart from that, these planks are a good way to improve critical thinking in individuals which is required in almost every field of education. If you are interested in bringing your imagination to life including various structures and historical monuments, get Keva Planks and start building your very own buildings. Today we will go through 7 beginners’ tips to start with Keva Planks.

1. Make full use of the User Manual or the Guide
If you are a beginner and have no past experience of designing structures, we recommend you to utilize the ideas mentioned in the user manual or the guide that comes with the set. Start building simple structures like towers and monuments with the planks and then move on to relatively complex structures like thatched roofs, spiral structures etc. Always remember to follow a pattern involving a gradual increase in difficulty. Do not try to do everything at once or you will be gradually frustrated or disappointed if you fail to achieve your goal.
2. Do not lose heart
Remember that there’s no compulsion for you to build a perfect structure using the planks. You might fail to achieve your goal. Keep in mind that failure is the pillar of success. Therefore if you fail at first, try, try and try again. You will surely succeed at some point. You may also take the help of your elders and teachers on the matter.
3. Avoid building structures on an uneven surface
This tip is very basic but it’s quite important. You should avoid building structures on uneven surfaces like a carpet or sofa to maximize your building potentials. Remember a slight shift in center of gravity will topple the entire structure. The planks are placed on top of each other and hence, the final structure is quite fragile. We recommend you to build your structures on the floor.
4. Blend your other toys with Keva planks for more fun
This is a good idea to have more fun with Keva planks. Integrate the planks with your toys, say for example you are making a race track with Keva planks for your favorite Hot Wheels car. It’s possible to do that, isn’t it? Similarly there are many other structures that can be built through Keva planks. All you’ll need is a little imagination and you are set to create anything as per your choice. It spices up the playing and the learning experience as well.
5. Do not limit your imagination to one specific kind of structure
Keva planks can virtually be used for building any structures from building to fences, furniture, vehicles etc. Do not limit yourself to a single structure. Try to explore new designs. That’ll bring more versatility to your plans. The achievement will also bring in more satisfaction.
6. Refer to online videos for step-by-step guidelines
Online videos are a great way to increase your knowledge of Keva planks. You’ll gradually develop the knowledge of improvising various architectural designs and make a novel design of your own. We are providing you with two sample videos for your reference. There are countless other videos on the internet as well. Check them out in your leisure.
7. 3D designing classes
Designing structures using Keva Planks is a good way to implement the concepts of 3D designing in your projects. 3D designing is an important part of STEM education. 3D designing classes implement the use of Keva Planks to develop your thinking pattern in a 3-dimensional way, which means that you’ll start thinking in 3D. You can get into these after-school classes which will surely be beneficial for you in the long run.
In a nutshell, we would say that Keva planks are fun and pretty engaging. Get a set and start building structures or anything that comes to your mind. Remember that the only limitation is your imagination. Best of luck!
